Simply Be Happy

Here is a little something I wrote for my Mom on her birthday back in 2009. I still mean it.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………

Mother, dear mother

I desire to take this time

To pronounce this rhyme

To use this sheet for my

Heart to speak

Words not of excellence

(For which you are known for instance)

Rather words that are pure

From my heart not a stone

All I really wanted to say

Simply be happy on this day

This day that you came

First with a crown

Unless of course you came upside down

In that case, bearing your soul

(Or souls to be precise)

Either way you still turned out nice

Martha your mother

Before her, your grand

Further back even yet

We could go with greats upon great

(And you could bet we’d be up pretty late)

But time would fail

To tell the tale

Of whence you came

But before the setting of day

You’d be in bed

Asleep like dead

So we mustn’t worry about the failing of time

Or of the greats upon great

For looking back is not the point

But looking ahead

(And not that i have a big head

Though some may say, I suppose it’s ok)

You’ve done amazingly well

By God’s good graces

We your kids won’t end up in hell

You diligently raised us

Teaching and beating

The seat of our pants

You knew one day

And not by chance

We’d love and fear

The same God who saved you

Who drew you near

This day we honor

The premier bearing

Of your crown or souls

I still don’t know

But the thing i’m most

Grateful for

Is the gift you received

That you have passed down to me

No I am not talking about a pyramid scheme

Remember those…

I digress

I lost my prose

Where was I

Oh I remember

Happy Day

On this 11th of December!
