We will be singing a new song today. “Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates!” is an old familiar hymn to many so hopefully it won’t be too terribly difficult for us to pick up. Below I have included a short clip of an artist named Wendell Kimbrough singing it that you can listen to in order to get the melody.
Additionally, I am trying something new to see if it helps us to learn new songs quicker and to be able to sing them better. Since we are not a congregation that reads music (at least not most of us). I put dots over the words of our new song to show us where each note (and syllable) goes. You will notice that some one syllable words, such as “of” may have two dots over it, which means that it will be sung as two syllables (and two notes). This may seem confusing now, but just wait and I think you will get it and I believe it will actually help you.
Here are our songs for this Lord’s Day:
- Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates!
- Skeleton Bones
- Gloria Patri
- Rock Of Ages, Cleft For Me
- Invitation Fountain
