Here is a little something I wrote for my Mom on her birthday back in 2009. I still mean it.<\/em><\/p>\n

Mother, dear mother<\/p>\n

I desire to take this time<\/p>\n

To pronounce this rhyme<\/p>\n

To use this sheet for my<\/p>\n

Heart to speak<\/p>\n

Words not of excellence<\/p>\n

(For which you are known for instance)<\/p>\n

Rather words that are pure<\/p>\n

From my heart not a stone<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

All I really wanted to say<\/p>\n

Simply be happy on this day<\/p>\n

This day that you came<\/p>\n

First with a crown<\/p>\n

Unless of course you came upside down<\/p>\n

In that case, bearing your soul<\/p>\n

(Or souls to be precise)<\/p>\n

Either way you still turned out nice<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Martha your mother<\/p>\n

Before her, your grand<\/p>\n

Further back even yet<\/p>\n

We could go with greats upon great<\/p>\n

(And you could bet we\u2019d be up pretty late)<\/p>\n

But time would fail<\/p>\n

To tell the tale<\/p>\n

Of whence you came<\/p>\n

But before the setting of day<\/p>\n

You\u2019d be in bed<\/p>\n

Asleep like dead<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So we mustn’t worry about the failing of time<\/p>\n

Or of the greats upon great<\/p>\n

For looking back is not the point<\/p>\n

But looking ahead<\/p>\n

(And not that i have a big head<\/p>\n

Though some may say, I suppose it\u2019s ok)<\/p>\n

You\u2019ve done amazingly well<\/p>\n

By God\u2019s good graces<\/p>\n

We your kids won\u2019t end up in hell<\/p>\n

You diligently raised us<\/p>\n

Teaching and beating<\/p>\n

The seat of our pants<\/p>\n

You knew one day<\/p>\n

And not by chance<\/p>\n

We\u2019d love and fear<\/p>\n

The same God who saved you<\/p>\n

Who drew you near<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This day we honor<\/p>\n

The premier bearing<\/p>\n

Of your crown or souls<\/p>\n

I still don\u2019t know<\/p>\n

But the thing i\u2019m most<\/p>\n

Grateful for<\/p>\n

Is the gift you received<\/p>\n

That you have passed down to me<\/p>\n

No I am not talking about a pyramid scheme<\/p>\n

Remember those…<\/p>\n

I digress<\/p>\n

I lost my prose<\/p>\n

Where was I<\/p>\n

Oh I remember<\/p>\n

Happy Day<\/p>\n
