I thought it would be most enjoyable and helpful to introduce the song a bit more thoroughly before.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0The Sands of Time are Sinking <\/em>was written in 1854 by Anne Ross Cousin while in Scotland with her husband who was a presbyterian minister. Cousin was inspired by the writings of the Scottish Samuel Rutherford who was a presbyterian theologian.<\/p>\n<p>Wayne Grudem author of <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Systematic-Theology-Introduction-Biblical-Doctrine\/dp\/0310286700\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1310170631&amp;sr=8-1\" target=\"_blank\">Systematic Theology: An Introduction To Biblical Doctrine<\/a> <\/em>says this of the song: <em>\u201cThis is one of the most beautiful hymns ever written in any language. It expresses so clearly the fact that the beauty of heaven is the glory of God, and the great beauty of God\u2019s glory is the Lamb who died for us and now reigns.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>Anne\u2019s original edition which is also know as\u00a0<em>Immanuel\u2019s Land,\u00a0<\/em>has nineteen verses but was later introduced by a Reverend with only these five:<\/p>\n<p><em>The sands of time are sinking,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> The dawn of heaven breaks;<\/em><br \/>\n<em> The summer morn I\u2019ve sighed for &#8211;<\/em><br \/>\n<em> The fair, sweet morn awakes:<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Dark, dark had been the midnight<\/em><br \/>\n<em> But dayspring is at hand,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> And glory, glory dwelleth<\/em><br \/>\n<em> In Immanuel\u2019s land.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The king there in His beauty,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Without a veil is seen:<\/em><br \/>\n<em> It were a well-spent journey,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Though seven deaths lay between:<\/em><br \/>\n<em> The Lamb with His fair army,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Doth on Mount Zion stand,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> And glory, glory dwelleth<\/em><br \/>\n<em> In Immanuel\u2019s land<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>O Christ, He is the fountain,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> The deep, sweet well of love!<\/em><br \/>\n<em> The streams on earth I\u2019ve tasted<\/em><br \/>\n<em> More deep I\u2019ll drink above:<\/em><br \/>\n<em> There to an ocean fullness<\/em><br \/>\n<em> His mercy doth expand,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> And glory, glory dwelleth<\/em><br \/>\n<em> In Immanuel\u2019s land.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The bride eyes not her garment,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> But her dear Bridegroom\u2019s face;<\/em><br \/>\n<em> I will not gaze at glory<\/em><br \/>\n<em> But on my King of grace.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Not at the crown He giveth<\/em><br \/>\n<em> But on His pierced hand;<\/em><br \/>\n<em> The Lamb is all the glory<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Of Immanuel\u2019s land.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>O I am my Beloved\u2019s<\/em><br \/>\n<em> And my Beloved is mine!<\/em><br \/>\n<em> He brings a poor vile sinner<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Into His house of wine<\/em><br \/>\n<em> I stand upon His merit &#8211;<\/em><br \/>\n<em> I know no other stand,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Not e\u2019en where glory dwelleth<\/em><br \/>\n<em> In Immanuel\u2019s land.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I encourage you to meditate on these lyrics, let them saturate your soul.
