Lately, our goal was to be able to safely turn breakers on, and therefore we have been hooking up outlets, switches, light fixtures and smoke alarms. ย It is exciting to be able to walk through the house and turn on lights… ย We were dreading having to buy ceiling fans because they are so expensive or so shoddy, but thanks to my wife’s determination and thrift she found a great deal on craigslist, a hardware store getting out of the lighting business. ย All of our seven fans were only $45 each, and they were new! ย The gentleman was very nice and gave us a box of lightbulbs just because!
I wouldn’t be half this far if it weren’t for Spencer who somehow knows plenty about electricity and it’s a good thing because apparently i have inherited from my father, an irrational fear of getting shocked. ย I’m still constantly having to tell myself that the little white screws that hold the switch plates on aren’t going to shock me when i flip the switch, yea it’s that bad but i’m working on it.
One of our favorite shopping spots through this building process has been a salvage yard about 45 minutes away. ย Because we are on an extremely tight budget we have decided to be frugal with things like light fixtures. ย So we got the cheapest $5 fixtures and even though we hated them we were going to just grin and bear it! ย After we got them all put up, somehow they somewhat grew on us. ย And then it hit me, Ej has been getting into “stamping” and so i suggested that she stamp the glass to give them a personal touch…ย ย This is what she came up with:
Anyhow, enjoy the photos!
