Here are our songs for the first Lord’s Day in Lent:
- King Alfredโs War Song – G
- The Day Is Past and Gone – C
- I Bind Unto Myself Today – Bb
- I Know That My Redeemer Lives – G
This week we will begin learning “The Day Is Past and Gone.” You may be reminded of “Ye Choirs of New Jerusalem” because they both have the melody in the tenor part and there is a section of each verse where each of the four parts has a staggered start beginning with the bass, tenor, alto, and finally soprano.
I have marked up the page to hopefully make it a bit easier for you to read and follow the as you learn this haunting and joy-filled song. Most folks will be singing the tenor part as it is the melody so if you are up to the challenge, listen to and work on one of the other parts by first listening to your part alone, over and over, with all the others turned down. Then bring in the other parts while you continue to sing yours. Finally, turn your part off and only listen to the other parts while you continue to sing your part.
