Songs We Sing (6/2/13)

Do you see that date up there? This year is almost half way through! Let that sink in for a moment… As you look over these songs we will be singing this weekend, take some time to reflect on your life. On the big picture and on a smaller, closer, more immediate level. This Sunday is the 2nd day of June in the year of our Lord 2013. Think about how old you are and think about how much time you have left on this earth assuming you live to be an average age. These thoughts may seem morbid, or make you feel sad or even guilty, but as one of the songs we will be singing reminds us,

All along I thought
I was learning how to take
How to bend not how to break
How to live not how to cry
But really
I’ve been learning how to die

In other words, lose yourself. Follow Christ. Make your life a blank check in the hands of our good and sovereign God. This Lord’s day, as we sing these songs—as we confess these truths or fears or thoughts, let us sing as people who are learning how to die, who are uninhibited by every lie, of every feeling of guilt or shame, unhindered by our selves. Let us sing well to remind one another that we are here, together. Laughing and crying. Living and dying and living again. Let us sing.

Here are the songs.

  1. Always
  2. In Christ Alone
  3. Did You Feel The Mountains
  4. Learning How To Die
  5. Invitation Fountain
